Alphabet Snack: “T” is for Tarsier

The Tarsier is a member of the monkey family with HUGE eyes!

~ Muffin ~ Conversation Hearts ~ Mini Cookies ~ White Chocolate Melts ~

You can use whatever you have on hand to make the Tarsier. The most important feature is the EYES! Use a lighter colored, larger circle for the background of the eyes (I used a white chocolate melt, but you can use a banana slice, light-colored cookie, or a circular bread cutout). Use a darker, smaller circle for the pupils (I used a mini Oreo cookie), and be sure to place the pupil directly in the center of the eye.

The eyes should also be the prominent part of the face. I placed my eyes on a muffin (I cut off the top of the muffin to make a flat surface to place the facial features), but you can use a pancake, piece of bread cut out in a circular shape, etc.

I used a piece of bread crust for the nose, and pink conversation hearts for the ears.

  • Each eyeball is approximately 16 mm (almost as big as a dime) in diameter and is as large as their entire brain.
  • They are primarily insectivorous, and catch insects by jumping at them.
  • The tarsier is “arboreal,” spending its entire life in trees.

I make random muffins all the time using the use-what-you-have recipe from the Tightwad Gazette. It’s online here: <—I LOVE this recipe!! I seriously just throw anything I have in… leftover oatmeal, baby food, etc.

This particular muffin was a chocolate muffin with choc-covered sunflower seeds in it!

The secret to good muffins is to add enough sugar. Shredded/blended fruit or veggies also helps. You can use zucchini, carrots, bananas, apples, pineapple, etc.

I took the muffin top off to make the tarsier – a flat surface helped the face stay together!
