Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage Recipe

Recipes are great ideas.  I browse many and then pick out what I like from all of them and make something of my own.  My husband swears I pull food out of thin air for my dinners.  He will look in the pantry and shake his head and mumble something about having to order pizza, and then I whip up something out of nothing!  It’s kind of my thing!  The following meal was created on such a night.  I had Kielbasa, left over tater tots, and eggs.  And that was about it!  So, I just worked with what I had, and now this meal is made quite often!!  When Hillshire Farms inquired about a possible recipe idea using their brand of sausage, I knew instantly it was time to make this recipe known to the world!!  I have NO idea what to call it, and my family didn’t help.  The best they could come up with was Hogwash. Sounds gross! So, until I can come up with a name….

Step 1:
Bake tater tots ahead of time, or use leftover tater tots.
Once cool, crumble them into a hot skillet drizzled with olive oil.
Add spices/seasonings.
You could also use any potato product you wish.

Step 2:
Sautee a sweet onion with a drizzle of olive oil and a pad of real butter.
Salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3:
Cut Hillshire Farms Kielbasa into bite size pieces.
Mix sausage and spices with the sautéed onion.

Step 4:
Once potatoes are crispy and the sausage mixture is throughly cooked, fry your eggs in a hot skillet. I didn’t get a picture of this process, only because my hubby helped cook the eggs and the kids were starving, so I hurried through this step…Oops.

  2. tater tots (crumbled)
  3. 1 tsp onion powder
  4. 1 tsp garlic powder
  5. 1 tsp parsley
  6. salt & pepper
  8. Hillshire Farms Kielbasa
  9. 1 sweet onion
  10. 1 Tbs butter
  11. 1 tsp garlic powder
  12. 1/2 tsp all spice
  13. 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  14. dash of cloves
  15. 1 Tbs brown sugar
  16. salt & pepper
  1. Bake tater tots ahead of time, or use leftover tater tots. Once cooled, crumble in a hot skillet drizzled with olive oil. Add onion powder, garlic powder, parsley, salt and pepper. Pan fry until crispy. In another hot skillet drizzled with olive oil, sautee onion with butter, salt and pepper until translucent. Cut smoked sausage into bite size pieces and add to onions. Add garlic powder, all spice, nutmeg, cloves, and brown sugar. Salt and pepper to taste. Once sausage mixture is cooked through, and the potatoes are crispy, fry eggs in a hot skillet. Plate immediately and serve.
