The end of school is just around the corner, and you know what that means: summer camp! And what’s one thing you think of when you think of summer camp (other than campfire songs, s’mores, and mosquitoes)? Canoes! It just seems a particular right of passage that kids should don life jackets and set out in a mini-armada of canoes so they can … what? I don’t know. But I remember how much fun it was to be out on the open water, and peaceful, too. When you combine the fun of canoeing with another summertime staple — grilling — you get the kind of fun meal that’ll inspire all sorts of camp stories!

Meandering through archives and came across this loveable guy. I made him May 2010!! I still think he looks like Mr. Noodle from Sesame Street!! Don’t you think??

I think he’s adorable. But I may be a bit bias!!

I have quite a collection of pictures my kids have drawn for me. Most of them include stick figures of our family, little blobs of color to represent our pets, and then, of course, there are innumerable pictures of our home, which inspired this lunch. I guess there’s a certain appeal for kids to want to draw straight lines, windows, grass and a smiling sun — over and over and over again.

It’s been raining the last few days here, which is what inspired this fun kids snack (or even lunch). Being cooped up inside, I thought I’d get creative with goldfish flowers, string-cheese clouds and sunflower-seed raindrops (it was either that or play yet another round of Candy Land!). The results brightened up an otherwise gloomy afternoon, and as I reminded my girls, let’s not wish the rain away because, after all, April showers bring May flowers!

Nothing says spring like a crystal blue sky, a stiff breeze and a soaring kite darting through the air. Now that the days are getting longer, we’re looking forward to some after-school outings in the park on those days when the weather is too perfect to stay inside. But of course, the other thing about spring is the changeable weather. So when those gloomy April showers have you cooped up, you and your kids can still have some wholesome fun with this (edible) kite! It’s easy breezy!

Someone asked me to come up with a baby shower snack and then decided to change the theme on me and I had to create something else for them. My mind was already brain storming baby shower ideas, so of course I whipped one up while the idea was still in my mind!
Baby Shower Food: Baby Carriages

~ Boiled Eggs ~ Baby Carrots ~
So simple. So adorable.
I’m going to tattle on myself and let you know that I send pics of all my creations to my hubby and to my twin sister for their approval before I submit or publish them. If they don’t like them, then you don’t get to see them. They help me strive for excellence!!
So, of course I sent the picture above to my twin sister.
Instead of her usual comments, she sent me this picture of her 7yo son:

He saw the picture I sent and said that he could make it.
So he did!!
All by himself!!
And in a matter of minutes too!!
LOVE how simple fun food can really be!!!!

The new year is upon us. According to the Chinese calendar, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, which represents success and happiness. Now, of course the Chinese new year doesn’t begin until the middle of January, but there’s no reason not to celebrate now with this adorable New Year’s baby dragon sandwich. My girls aren’t exactly fans of dragons, but even they couldn’t resist this little guy!

The pics I post here on Little Nummies are finished products of my creative randomness.
They look simple and easy enough for you to create, which is exactly the point!!
However, the process on my end is a little bit more challenging.
CASE IN POINT:
It all started while I was cutting up mushrooms to sautee for dinner…
