Christmas Kid Food: The Reason for the Season

“For unto us a child is born.”
Isaiah 9:6

Baby Jesus in a Manger

~ Hotdog ~ Cheese ~ Crescent Dough ~ Graham Cracker ~

Cut a hot dog in half and wrap strips of  crescent dough around it to create a baby blanket.  Bake as directed.  Break a gaham cracker in half for the manger. Use 2 pieces of another graham cracker for the base.  I used peanut butter to hold the graham crackers in place.  Shredded cheese for the hay. Place baby on top of manger when it’s cooled.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

{ My intent is to help illistrate the story of Christmas, not to offend. }

~ Hotdog ~ Pretzels ~

Okay, maybe not a hundred legs… but a lot!

This is a super quick and easy way to make your hotdogs fun – it takes ten seconds! Just slice lengthwise along one side of the hotdog to make a flat surface, then place on top of a line of stick pretzels. Poke holes in the hotdog and push pretzels in to make eyes.

Halloween Food: Tortilla Wrapped Hotdog Mummies

Mummies are a favorite around Halloween.  Most hotdog mummies are wrapped with crescent dough, but these are wrapped with tortillas and sprinkled with cheese.  Almost like a quesadilla wrapped hotdog!!

Kids are going to love this simple yet fun recipe!!

Hotdog Mummies

These guys are popular and usually seen with using strips of Pillsbury dough.  I didn’t have any Pillsbury dough at the moment, so I just used a large tortilla and cut it into strips.  I wrapped them around the hotdogs leaving room for a “face” and then sprinkled cheese on top for added goodness!!  Put them on a cookie sheet and into the oven at 350 degrees for about 10 min, or until all the cheese is melted and the tortilla is a little bit crispy. You can use dots of mustard or ketchup for the eyes.  I used little pieces of raisin.  Serve with “blood” (ketchup) on the side.

Definately mummified!!

Halloween Food: Bloody Worms

Mom, that’s GROSS!!  Ah, yes. Halloween time is upon us…

::insert evil laugh::

~~~~
BLOODY WORMS
Mmmm…doens’t it look yummy?!?  Take a hotdog and cut it into long skinny strips.  Take each strip and curl it around your finger and place them on a plate.  Next place the curled hotdogs into the microwave for 10-15 seconds to get them warm and hold the curl. Here is what they should look like:
Toast a slice of bread and well, we use mayonaise on our hotdogs, but put whatever you would like on the toast or leave it plain. Place the toast on a plate. Next, take the “worms” and pile them on top of the toast.  Take a ketchup bottle and hold it above the “worms” and just put drops of “blood” on them…use as much as you want!!  I served mine with homemade french fries with “blood” smeared on the plate.
* You don’t have to be a vampire to love this bloody meal!! *
Fun Recipes using Hotdogs
Tired of giving your kids a plain hotdog?!?
*TRY THESE*
~~~~

SnailDog

My creative take on Pigs in a Blanket. You will need a can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and Hotdogs. Preheat the oven as directed on the package. Separate the rolls and wrap a triangle once around the hotdog (start with the large end) and pile the rest of the dough on top to make the shell. Makes up to 8 SnailDog. Place snails in oven and bake as directed on the package.  Let them cool a bit.  Take a raisin and use your thumbs to tear it open to expose the sticky inside. Break a pretzel stick in half. Stick an end of the pretzel stick inside a raisin and poke it into the hotdog for the eye.  Repeat. Drizzle some honey on a plate for the “slime” and place SnailDog on top.

(Hotdogs and honey are YUMMY!!!)

Hotdoctopus

Cut a hotdog lengthwise into eight parts (legs) leaving an inch or so for the head.  Put him in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds just to warm him up. Break apart 1 graham cracker and use peanut butter to “glue” the four pieces together (as shown).  Fill the “Treasure Chest” with anything you want.  I used miniature marshmallows and raisins.  Drape Mr. Hotdoctopus over the Treasure Chest. Cut a raisin in half and use the sticky side to adhere it to the hotdog for eyes.

{ My kids have named him Sqwuidward }
